I’m mainly focusing on

Making Space and Joining Dots

to bring light to the fact that we are more than we think we are and we can achieve so much more than we are.  If we reflect on our value system we begin to question and eventually dissolve the power structures that keep us locked in the system that is destroying us and our planet.

This is about us seeing ourselves.  All we need is to be seen and loved, not for our achievements or anything else but just for being and that enables us to achieve.  Often we don’t feel that growing up and we recreate the experiences that match those feelings.  In maturity we realize we can do this for ourselves.  We can see ourselves.  We can love ourselves.  We are the ones.

                                                                                            Artist Statement

Using painting, drawing and mixed media to explore.  I paint mainly in acrylics but am not confined to them.  The essence of the subject can determine a very different medium.  My work in often not representational of the physical world but of the emotional and subtle energies not visible to the eye.   My practice is rooted in the experiential, accessing knowledge through nature, the body, the mind, intuitively guided,  the knowledge that we all have access to.  Physical places or objects can serve as a gateway and a starting point and in these cases a good portion of the process will involve representation of the physical place or subject as a means of attuning.  Colour plays a large part in my work.  Capturing the essence of the energy at play within an emotion, a feeling or place is what my work is about.  The stuff we can’t see, but can feel, it is a language for that.  Exploring the essence of a subject can begins with a very simple inspiration - a group of orange squares or a group of black rectangles with a red rectangle centered, or a very basic outline.  Lines, dots, marks, the interplay of colour and texture explore and express on an energetic level.

Developing my practice:

My work is very rooted in the process, with the aim to go deeper into the elements that animate life. My work for so long has focused on the inner development of my process, my own self healing, awareness of unconscious patterns in my own life and the effect of those.  Exploring the energy at particular sites has deepened that in working through deep rooted feelings and emotions sharedby many in our common history and passed down through generations as society developed.  I like many others have allowed negative self consciousness and feelings of not belonging to keep me from really allowing myself the freedom to realize my dreams or even accept my true self.  My work has given me the opportunity to work through a lot of my stuff and faced me with accepting the reality of who I am.  This journey was an essential part of my process and sharing it is cathartic and an indispensable part of my practice.  With painting/creating outdoors in public spaces either independently or with my installation being an important part of the practice.

Exploring the energy that animates life, it’s creative driving force, our place in it.  Our own potential and tuning our minds to harness that.  Delving into this is what my practice is really about.

My approach/starting point is to attune to the source of energy through exploring its nature, observing how that energy flows through nature and us.
